“What you can do, or dream you can, begin it; Courage has genius, power and magic in it.” – Johann Woflgang von Goethe

Saturday Habits

Habits.  I don’t normally keep up with workouts or diets on the weekends.  At least, I didn’t in my past.

This morning, I walked again.  The past 3 mornings at 530a, I have gotten out of bed, put on my sports bra, socks and shoes, and hit the treadmill.  I haven’t been concerned with what type of workout, just getting up was enough.  I have been walking, but not consistently.

But it has been enough by just getting up and moving.  I have increased my steps for each of the days, and I am up and being productive with the rest of my day (two loads of laundry will be done by 10a).  I was ready to have coffee on Thursday and Friday during work, but I didn’t and it didn’t kill me.  I was off of the treadmill by the time I was normally out of bed.  So no need to change the process of getting ready for the day.  I just added 45 minutes to my day.

It wasn’t easy this morning especially knowing that I could have slept in.  Stayed warm and cozy.  Nope.  I have a goal to hit by May 16, and it is something I can accomplish.  Well, if I don’t drink as much wine between now and then.  Ha.

So, what have you been sticking with the past month?  Anything fun?

Blessings!!

Squirrel?

Nope raccoon that David has named Rocket.   Dexter found this little one outside, apparently fallen from the next.  It was in the middle of the day, so we brought it inside to warm up until night fall.

We did follow the instructions as to try to get her back to her Mom. We also knew not to feed or give the any water.  David found out that warming uncooked rice in a sock for 30 seconds in a microwave would keep them warm for a longer period of time.

Abby was not happy about the little one in the house at all.

So it turned out that Rocket was a Rosie.  Mom never did come back to get them.  After a long night, and lots of inside warming time, and outside for Mom to find them time.  David took them to the Wildlife Refuge on first thing Monday morning.

David contacted the refuge on Thursday morning to check on them.  Rocket ended up passing after a couple of hours after David had dropped them off.  But Rosie is thriving!  Our hearts are both happy and sad.

Blessings!

Appreciation

Yesterday was Administrative Professional’s Day, and I was given a beautiful bouquet of flowers.  I was blown away.  I work with a wonderful group of women, who are encouraging and empowering on a daily basis.

So very thankful.

Blessings!

Crawfish

One of the best things about the Mud Bug 5k is that they were serving 2lb crawfish and shrimp in togo containers for a discount.  I love these crawfish tails.  I used to be able to eat at least one of these containers with extra corn and potatoes.  Now, barely half, and none of the potatoes and corn.

David was the recipient of the potatoes and corn.   And I know that I ate way too much, but it was super yummy and it will hold me over for a while anyway. Getting back on track with making sure of the right amount of intake is the goal for the week.

Blessings.

Mud Bug 5k

Last Saturday, David and I participated in the Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers Mud Bug 5k.  It is a great fund raiser, and got in another try at a 5k.  It was hot, and I hadn’t been working on my time or walking in general.I finished at 52:35 which was a minute less than the Lucky Leprechaun 5k that we did in March.  Again, just to be able to complete it is so much more than what I would have thought a year ago.

So only one more to do for the year to reach my 5k goal (3 this year total).  I think we will end up doing 5, but not going to jinx it.

Blessings!!

Baths

I love taking baths for relaxation.  I used to have to have help getting in and out of the tub. My non-surgery victory lately has been I can get down into the tub and pull myself out of the tub with not one ounce of assistance.

The first time this happened I cried. I tend to leak from my eyes more often these days, but that’s okay.

Little victories.

Blessings!

Sunday Thought

“What helps me when I’m hit with anxiety is professing faith out loud:  God, You are good.  Faithful.  Aware. On it.  I place ALL my trust in You.” – Beth Moore

This week I have had more anxiety.  I place it on myself.  Too much to do, and not communicating.  I know what my faults are.  I am a perfectionist, and want to shine bright not only for myself for my workplace as well.  I want us to look great.  I had taken on a task, and became completely overwhelmed, and had a panic attack.  I sat in my car for 35 minutes (with the air on) sweating, and head pounding, mind swirling, and in utter nauseous.  Ugh.

I got up and went in, and spoke with my supervisor.  She is a wonderful manager with far too much stress on herself at the moment (and of course, I feel guilty for even going to her with this), and say:  “I am overwhelmed, and needed you to know.”  Pretty simple, right?  Hard thing to do.  For me anyway.  Then after getting through that, going to one of my other supervisors (I have 4), and telling her the same thing.  All was good, as she was stressed as well.

We divided the work at hand, and conquered.  Completed the task that needed to be done, sharing the stress of not only the work that needed to be done, but sharing with one another.

Communication is the key.  No one likes to admit that we can’t do something, or that we are behind.  Just talk it out.  Share the misery.  Ha.

I always feel better when I have shared my stress.  And, I have always shared it first with God.  He never fails.  I do. Everyday.

Blessings.

Pictures and WLS

A year ago with family at Easter.

And this year, just Carmen and I.

Pictures are a wonderful thing for anyone going through weight loss, or any change for that matter.  I still don’t see a lot of my weight loss when I look in the mirror.  I see it more in the things I am able to do.

Like today’s Mud Bug 5k.  I will update you later this week on how that goes.

Blessings!

Greek Cous Cous · Recipes · share · Uncategorized · WLS

Greek Cous Cous

I needed a simple side to take over to the in laws for a birthday dinner.

I got some dried couscous, and some Greek feta salad. I had the idea to mix the two. It worked!!

I placed the Greek Feta Salad in a large mixing bowl.  Cooked the Cous Cous per the instructions.  Added a small, sauteed onion.

Let cool just a bit, and then mixed together.  I really enjoyed it, as did Carmen.  David wasn’t a big fan, but he is a lover of potatoes.

I had enough to serve on Easter, and even gave some to friends.

Blessings.
