Getting Back on Track!

So I have confessed that I have had weight gain the past several months.  Well, back up to 197 is not a good feeling!! I had been maintaining for several months, and as my friend Beth pointed out, maintaining is difficult to do.  At least I haven’t been gaining this entire time.

Putting on the weight has been very easy to do.  Getting it back off (especially at 51 years of age) is hard.  I saw my weight loss doctor and nutritionist for my 18 month check up, and they suggested I do a reset.   The reset is titled “Getting Back on Track!”, and I began on Monday.  I am doing a liquid fast (juices, jello, no protein shakes or solid foods) for at least two to three days.  I didn’t want to start it before Thanksgiving or the Bestie weekend…so three weeks from Christmas I begin again.

I hadn’t been exercising either.  So Monday, got up (later than normal but got up), and walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes.  Not great, but it is a start – again.  David and I are signed up for the 5k that we did a year ago.  I had high hopes for cutting down my time, but now all I want to do is be able to finish again.

It is frustrating how easy it is to lose track of a habit that benefits me.  I love the effects the weight loss surgery has given me (a great tool), but it still takes effort and work.  Nothing is easy (apparently putting the weight on is!), but I know that I am not perfect and the baby steps have begun again.

Journey to healthy…again.

Blessings.

Stephen

Today this young one turns 21.  I am feeling old.  Thankful for him to taste all of my cooking creations, as well as being my bug and frog catcher. 🙂

December 1

Ah –hurricane season is officially over.  I feel grateful that we were not impacted with major damage this year.  Losing the Live Oak was the most damage, and very thankful we didn’t have further damage than just losing the tree.img_2104Today is also National Christmas Lights Day! Yay!  I love mine, and they are already up thanks to David and Stephen.  I don’t have a picture from this year, so this is last years picture.  Basically the same but will post this years later next week. And the weekend brings time with girlfriends in Tallahassee, again the picture is from last year, but excited to have the time with them again.Happy December 1st.  Feeling truly grateful for family, and friends.

Blessings today and always.

Distance

Don’t compare your progress with that of others. We all need our own time to travel our own distance.

A friend on Facebook posted this today.  A good reminder for me today in many areas of my life.  For me not to get anxious about math, our children and their path, or my weight, or whatever in general I think that needs to be done.  No one measures my distance but me.

Blessings.

Bacon

The only way to cook bacon is to bake it. No splatter, remains crispy.

Line a sheet pan with aluminum foil, place the bacon in a single layer on the pan.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until the bacon is done to your liking.

This is always perfect! And, we love bacon.

Sunday Thought – Mom and Food

“Sometimes you cook stuff for holidays that your mama made, not because you like it so much but because you liked her and miss her the most.” – Beth Moore

Wanting kraut and missing Mom.

Social Media

Last night I shared this picture:

Everyone posted asking if I was okay. The tag line was tired. Just tired. I was ready for bed, and you can see it.

Went to sleep…and got up…not tired. Still have decorations to finish for Christmas, and boxes are everywhere but:

Volunteered this morning in the Raiders concession stand. It was fun. David and Carmen came along to help as well. Our friend Ryen came as well. So nice to spend time with her and to make new friends.

Had to wear a hat…now I have hat hair but a really good day. Still tired but a nap might be in my future.

I didn’t realize I needed to be so aware of my pictures on social media. Everyone genuinely cared that posted their concern with the first picture. I think we need more of those kind of pictures, and the ones with a bit of chaos around us. It is reality. I think I need to see more of them. At least I don’t feel like I am failing at life with everyone doing all of these great things, continuous smiles and happy families. Life happens, and we all go through days of being tired.

So…happy Saturday.

Blessings.
