Pigs

Y’all know that there are times I am obsessed with pigs.  Well, apparently I am even more so when I am in Baton Rouge.

Visiting with Carmen, and going to the Razorback-LSU Baseball game was wonderful in itself.  Carmen took us to a restaurant that she and David had gone to before, that honestly, I thought was just a BBQ shack.img_4739I decided to give it a try, and fell in LOVE with it.  I love the atmosphere, staff, and the food was amazing!  We went to the City Pork Brasserie and Bar at the Jefferson Street location. They have these pigs hanging on their walls, and I seriously thought that they were wrought iron, and so wanted one.  So I asked if I could have one – sure for $20.  The picture below is what Carmen posted on her Snapchat of me after I got my pig!Just a tad bit excited!  But, can you blame me?!  We will make this a frequent place when we visit, and not just because of the chalk pig! And now she hangs above the kitchen table.  Not sure that I want to write on it…yet.  Love that pig!  (And, I have NO desire to collect pigs, but this one was special.) Now to work on the clutter on the table.

Blessings!

Free Seats – Baseball

LSU Baseball…again…my weekend with Carmen after my 5k Lucky Leprechaun that morning, drove for 5 hours, then dinner. Yes, we had to eat. Then we went to see if there were any seats left at the game.  Well, the rain helped for the empty seats, and the score did as well.  We got in for free, and seats at 3rd base.  Free seats weren’t bad at all.  We even made it on National TV – ESPN – David recorded it on his phone.  I am not sure why I am so wiggly…but Carmen and I make the same facial expressions. Yes she is mine, and I can’t deny it with this video!

We had a great time.  Home, bed, and then up for the Founder’s Day events on Saturday.  But first, selfies.Love her.

Blessings.

Founder’s Day

Last weekend I had the privilege of spending the day with Carmen for her Delta Gamma Founder’s Day celebration.  We had a great weekend.  She really has a great group of women here at LSU, as they are encouraging, engaging, welcoming, loving, and true friends for life.  I loved seeing this first hand, and being a part even for a small slice of a day. This picture (below) of the two of us is my FAVORITE!  I love this.  It is outside the DG house at LSU…it speaks volumes…my love and support for her (always behind her)…her sisters here that love and support her (supporting her)…her being the incredible, strong women she is.  Do good.

Blessings!

Do Good

Motto for my daughters sorority is to “do good.” Being with her this past weekend has been wonderful. I got her this poster from Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. It speaks volumes to me and to her. Do good. Do something. Do the most good with what you can.Sometimes we are not always able to do good, but you should be able to do the right thing.  Have manners.  Think things through.  Love each other.  Do good.

Blessings.

Notes

Carmen was home last weekend, and claims my craft room/office as her bedroom for when she is here.  We got her a really nice air mattress, and it accommodates her fine especially since her main living space is at school.

I limit my time in my office due to her “space” usage, and just to be respectful for her to have a retreat at home.  Part of my routine on the weekends is to go upstairs, scroll through Facebook, Twitter, and the news.  Have some time for Bible study, and meditation.  Review our money, pay bills, and blog.

Here it is Saturday, and I got to my craft room to start my Facebook scrolling.  I had to move some papers around (I try to keep things organized), and I found this under my computer mouse.I often send her encouraging notes so she has some mail away from home.  But for her to do this…for me…blew me away this morning.

I love her dearly, and so very grateful for her encouragement in whatever I am doing.

Blessings.

Carmen’s Thoughts – Parent Appreciation

When I was in nursing school, the majority of my classmates were older than me, and of those people, they were mostly working parents trying to get a degree to better theirs and their family’s lives.

Once school gets in full swing, plus work and anything else I’m involved with, my schedule gets really busy and I can feel overwhelmed. Then, once I calm down, I start to think of the parents that are also in school (shout-out to Mom to taking two classes again!). The student-parents do everything I do, plus take care of a family, sometimes all on their own.

Some of these parents aren’t that much older than me, but it all blows my mind. I can barely take care of myself, let alone a tiny human. I look up to these strong people who do what they can to make their children’s lives easier in the long run.

If you’re a student, parent, or both, you are amazing. You do what few people can handle. You are strong, and deserve to be recognized.

Bucket List-Algebra

I can now say that I have conquered Algebra!  I received my final grade of “C”.  I will take it.  I so struggled with this.

I knew the material, just really struggled with the tests.  Overall, I did well.  I am so thankful it is done.  The anxiety with the tests was really overwhelming.  I tried my oils, medicine, and breathing techniques.  I still found myself staring at my test with – uhm – what is this? I LOVED this from Carmen.  My family has been incredibly supportive.

I have made it a goal to take six courses (two classes per semester) in 2018 beginning with Statistics (math again), and Nutrition.  I am not looking forward to the Statistics course, but I am the Nutrition course.  I think if I can get through this next math, I will be okay in school.  I know that I will struggle, but just looking forward to learning and growing.

So onward, right?  Happy to have a break for a couple of weeks.

Blessings!!

Carmen’s Thoughts – Finals Week

I have one year of school left before I graduate with my bachelor’s degree, and finals week always stresses me out. It stresses all students out. I’m borderline between grades in most of my classes, and there is never enough time in a day to get everything done. Add studying and homework on top of working at an online retail company (where people call and get really mean). Ugh.

But with some coffee, and maybe some yoga if I can squeeze it in, I can get through it. Just a few exams stand between me and a break. That, and some of these classes I’ll never have to take again (as long as I pass – I should, but still).

Good luck to anyone else going through finals. We can do it.
