It was National Sushi 🍣Day yesterday. I saw that it was trending on Twitter and talked David into going to dinner.
It was so good. I ended up eating the sashimi (no rice), and one piece of the California roll.
Blessings.

Last night, we went to dinner at my favorite sushi restaurant – Juno’s.
Juno couldn’t remember what he made me last time, but we decided to try a “rainbow roll” modified.
Instead of steam shrimp he used shrimp tempura which added a crunch, but the toppings were the same. No rice, cucumber, avocado or seaweed wrap. Just the basics. Next time I think we will add the avocado.
It was crunchy with the tempura and sesame seeds, tangy with the spicy mayo, and full of flavor. Loved it.
What is your favorite sushi roll?
Blessings.
In my past life of eating everything, I loved eating sushi. All kinds of sushi. Well, except Uni. Never have liked it.
But, I could and would eat two or three rolls or consume chirshi don (10 different pieces of sashimi on rice) with miso soup and maybe even a seaweed salad. Way too much food.
Since my sleeve surgery, I have had sashimi but really no more than 4-5 ounces at a time. I have missed the combination of flavors that traditional sushi rolls have. I have been talking about eating sushi with a co-worker who has lots of dislikes when it comes to textures and food. She really doesn’t like a lot of fish either. So sushi?
Well, all of the talk of what kind of fish to try (if any – hello steak!), made me want some sushi again.
After talking with my long time sushi chef and friend about my cravings, he served me this:
2 pieces of shrimp tempura wrapped in 3 ounces of yellow tail with spicy mayo and green onions (with a little bit of eel sauce).
Oh my! My taste buds were extremely happy, and so was my tummy. It brought back the roll flavors I had been missing without any of the rice (yes, the tempura breading is a no-no, but in the grand scheme of things – not so bad).
So thankful. And, yes I will be having it again – maybe next time with ahi tuna.
Blessings.
Friday night ended up being a wonderful night out with my hubby.
We went to Destin Commons, and walked around a bit. I went and drooled on some charms and handbags at Brighton. Love that place. Reconnected with Mary, a sales associate, but I believe the beginnings of a nice friendship.
After some walking, we ended up at Sushi Siam. A great, all around restaurant.
David got the sweet and sour scallops Rock & Wok.
I got the chirashi (assorted sashami on rice). Loved it. Their spicy tuna (in the martini glass) was addictive. The flavor of the tuna and lemon came through first, then the heat. Wonderful. Had enough to bring some home for Carmen to have after work. It was wonderful.
These pictures were taken with my iphone, and somewhat dark. I do apologize.
I have to say, that I never thought I would have to play catch up with a blog. I have been terrible about taking pictures while cooking, but if you continue reading, I have taken pictures about other things.
It has been crazy busy at our house the past couple of weeks.
Stephen and Carmen finished up 6th and 10th respectively.
Stephen…
Stephen made A/B Honor Roll – Yeah! The biggest accomplishment for him was actually seeing what happens when he studies. He will just review a subject before a test, take the test, make anywhere from a “C” to a “F”. He failed one test scoring a 41 (vocabulary words and definitions) doing this type of studying. I explained it to him, that he was a lot like me, and needed to slowly study throughout the week, absorbing the information over time. We reviewed the material together, and he studied all week. The last day of school he brought home all of his papers…and in that pile of papers… a 100% on the vocab test. YEAH! He looked at me and said, “I think I know how to study this now.”
Stephens Baseball ended well. I think (yes, think) that they finished 2nd…but truthfully I don’t remember and really don’t care as long as they were not last. Yes. They were last – last year.
He received the award of most improved player. He deserved it. He made 3 outs of the season, and compared to last year, that is three more than last year.
Carmen did great in school as well. Some of her art work is a bit odd, but showing of her abilities to think outside the box, and hopefully she will continue to enjoy art.
The moon cooperated this time. And, so I have discovered I like sunsets and the moon glow.
