Onderland – WLS

Okay – there is this place called Onederland.  I haven’t seen it in a very long time (like approximately 19 years).  I didn’t realize what it was that is until my Gastric Sleeve Surgery support group peers were posting that they had reached it.  Onederland: When your weight is under 200 pounds.

I have been at 202 or 200.6 for the last week.  I was really hopeful after our trip to St. Augustine that with all of the walking we did it would boost my metabolism.  I am not sure if that did it or if slow and steady wins the race.  But I will take it.

I reached it yesterday morning.   198.8.  Jump up and down, take it.  I don’t want to EVER be over 200 again.  This is such a milestone for me.  Honestly, Stephen (our youngest) hasn’t ever seen me this small.  My heavens.  Just typing that out is shocking to me.  It has been forever for me to see this weight.

My goal that I set with my doctor is 190.  I am eight/nine pounds away from goal. I know that I won’t stop here.  But I don’t know where I will end up.  I just want to be healthy.

So…what goals have you met?  Have you set any goals?  So now to beat my time in a 5k, right? Well, and to see 190 lbs.

Blessings!!

Bolthouse Farms and WLS

Every morning I enjoy a Bolthouse Farm Protein drink to kick start my protein intake.  I am in love with the Blended Coffee Protein Shake.  They have other flavors like chocolate, vanilla, and mango, but I prefer the coffee because I don’t find it as sweet.

I have to have 90-100 grams of protein a day since I had my gastric sleeve surgery. It can be hard to get in that much protein.  I normally try to eat my protein first, then a vegetable or fruit.  Shakes are a good supplement.  One of the Bolthouse 15 ounce shakes is 30 grams of protein. Yay!

Today, as I was enjoying my shake, Abigail joined me.

I tend to buy out the store when I find the coffee shakes in stock. I normally find them at Publix, Wal-Mart, and Target.  I have checked out the Bolthouse site for direct shipment to no luck.  I am in love with these shakes (not a paid endorsement-strictly my opinion).

Blessings!

Ahi Tuna Sashimi

So David and I went shopping at Sam’s Club tonight.  We were seriously in need of groceries.  I know that I am not supposed to shop while hungry so I think I ended up getting everything I saw.  Not really, but close.  I ended up getting lots of different protein for meal prep this weekend.  But I also got a small bit of Ahi Tuna.  It was small, and a little fatty.  I ended up trimming off the fat, and prepping it for some sashimi.

I had some green onions, and I always keep soy sauce and sesame oil on hand. So I chopped the tuna, and added the green onions.  Blended the soy sauce with very little oil.  I have always added a squirt of lemon juice to this blend.  It brightens it I think.  I had some sesame seeds as well.  I added that at the end.

I don’t like a lot of oil, and only used very little.  The rest is just to taste. Sprinkle with seeds, and serve chilled.

I love my Epcot plates…perfect for me sashimi.  Two meals anyway, dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow.

Enjoy!!

Ho Ho Hustle – 5k

On December 10, 2016, David and I participated in our first 5k.  Fort Walton Beach sponsored a Ho Ho Hustle 5k/10k for both runners and walkers for a Toys for Tots fundraiser.

I have had a 5k on my bucket list for a long while.  I originally thought one day I would run it, but after my last doctor appointment that won’t happen for a while.  My knees and hips are bone on bone, so walking is not a problem but running is not the option for a long while.

Ugh.  I have been walking Dexter, and averaging two miles in about 40 minutes.  So I thought that I was prepared for  3.2 miles.  I was and wasn’t.  The morning of the 5k it was a brisk 38 degrees.  Brrrr.  I so wanted to stay in our very warm bed.  But, David was the encouraging one, and we got up and out the door.

It was cold.  I was nervous.  Anxious.  Not sure about what was to happen, how things work, where to go, what to do, etc.  I do this about most things that are new to me.  And this was one of those days.

So, it was cold.  We lined up.  All of the runners get ahead of us.  Walkers in the back.  Okay. Sounds good to me.  We are in the middle of the “back” of the walkers.  And we are off.  Started out at a not slow but not fast pace.  Mid way through I felt as though we were still hanging in there.  David was super supportive staying at my pace when he could have gone way ahead.  So sweet.

I finished at 59:02.  Under 60 minutes. Okay. Not great, but not last either.  I did actually run for 10 seconds (just because), and it wasn’t really running. But above all, I finished.  I started, maintained, and finished.  David says now we have a time to beat.  I just want to start, compete, and finish again.  Maybe do this three or four times a year.  Goals for this year anyway.  But that is another post.

Blessings!
