Sunday Thought

“People yearn to be heard.  Sometimes they shout because they feel like no one listens when they don’t.” – Beth Moore

If you have older children, I feel this statement is more than true.  My mom always yelled, but I think more of her yelling was that she was German. Ha. No, really.  I have yelled more for my kids than at them, I pray.

What do you want to yell about today?  Today, I am happy.  Feeling grateful for my roof (that needs repairing), refrigerator that is full (still need to shop, and meal prep), clean running water (need to drink more of), a comfortable, warm place to sleep (not under a bridge or without a home), and my family (that I irritate most times).  Grateful.

We should yell more about what we are grateful about than what we don’t have.  Or maybe even yell for those who can’t use their voices.

Blessings!

Not Today

Well, I had great intentions for today.  It is now 845 p.m. and no homework, cleaning, or laundry accomplished for today.

Well…I take that back.  We went to Lowe’s to get paint for the craft room.  But not one blog idea, or post today.  Carmen came home for an overnight visit.  Completely through me off my game.  It was really wonderful seeing her though.  Stephen came over for dinner as well.  Really nice having them both home for a little bit anyway.

So…what were you supposed to do today?  Did you accomplish it?

Blessings!

Groundhog Day · Random Thoughts · Uncategorized

Groundhog Day

Today is Groundhog Day.  The day that a groundhog will predict the next 6 weeks of our lives with weather.  I loved the 1993 movie with Bill Murray.  The main plot is that a weatherman covering Groundhog Day in Pennsylvania wakes up the day after Groundhog day to repeat the day, until he gets it right. Or so he thinks.

I don’t want to repeat today. Or any other day for that matter. But…what if you could get a do over until you got it right?

groundhogdayquote

Interesting?  Nothing you do matters?  Being positive with people or being negative – does it matter?  Showing kindness?  Being like vinegar?  There are many days that I would like to have five or ten minutes more.  Or even another day with my Mom.  But to do the same day over, and over? No.

If you had the opportunity to have a “do over” day, would you?

Comment below.

Blessings!

Seasons and Friendship

Can I sail through the changin’ ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Friendships are hard.  One changes at different times.  Grow together, and grow apart.

I love this season of my life.  I like change.  But I also hurt.  I want to be acknowledged. Not to always be the one to acknowledge.  Selfish I know.  I don’t want to waste my time (as precious as time is) on constant take.  I need give too.  We all do.

What season are you in?  Do you have certain friends for certain things?  Do they get jealous when you spend time with other friends? Do they ignore you, snicker when you talk in a group?  Too much judgement these days in the world in general.  I don’t like to get on social media these days.  Too much hate.

“Don’t be too confident when he/she tells you they like you.  The real question is …until when?” – unknown.

Blessings!

Shootings in CT

MORGAN FREEMAN ON THE SHOOTINGS YESTERDAY:

“You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here’s why.

It’s because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he’ll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN’s article says that if the body count “holds up”, this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer’s face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer’s identity? None that I’ve seen yet. Because they don’t sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you’ve just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man’s name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem.”

I will not honor the killer.

I will do as Morgan has asked and remember the lost.

NaBloPoMo 2012-Day 30

NaBloPoMo 2012 – Day 30

Okay, do you see that? Day 30?  I have blogged for 30 (thirty) days in a row.  I am really amazed that I stuck with it so long.  I know that there were some days you shouldn’t have read what I wrote, but all in all, I am feeling accomplished.

So I am still frustrated at my photos not uploading, and will continue to work on those.  But, December is a very busy month for me (and I am sure, lots of you as well), starting with Stephen’s birthday on the 2nd.

But, I plan to blog more because this showed me I could do it and you are reading what I write.  That part scares me a little. ha.

Okay….so thank you for a great November!

Have a great day.
Blessings – always.

Holy Family Stamp

NaBloPoMo 2012 – Day 14

I was completely taken back with this stamp this year.

USPS Holy Family Stamp

I had to go to the US Post Office today to mail two packages to David.  He needed a pair of gloves, and a treat or two.  While I was there, I asked if they had their Christmas stamps yet?  They did.

I purchased three sets of these Holy Family books.  I love that they are using the wording Holy Family.  It was a comforting sight especially after the last couple of weeks.

I have always said that it seems that those of us who worship Jesus Christ are not allowed to say anything aloud in public because we may offend someone.  We (believers) aren’t supposed to say anything for those who choose not to worship Christ, and sometimes a “holiday” break just doesn’t cut it.  I want to say “Christmas” break because that is what it is.  If you want call it “winter” break fine, but I am a Christmas break girl.

School programs are asked to showcase Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, but Christians aren’t supposed to show Jesus.  In fact, Stephen participated in a Holiday Showcase (in Kindergarten) that showed all things winter including Father Winter (I don’t know really who he is), but not Christ.  I am completely for others being able to showcase their beliefs, but then allow us (Christians) to do the same.  We need to learn about other cultures and religions.  I try to keep an open mind, but everyone should get the same piece of the pie and then everyone is happy (I know, but).

I went off…and I am sorry if I have offended anyone.  Wait, I am not sorry.  I am sorry if you are offended by equal time.  I don’t shove my beliefs down your throat, please don’t shove yours down mine.

So all of my cards will have this Holy Family proudly placed on each and every mailing I do this Christmas.  I am feeling quite blessed by being able to do this, this year.  I think I need to purchase enough for the next several years, especially since they are “forever” stamps.  Isn’t that appropriate? The Holy Family Stamp is a Forever Stamp.  I love it.

Blessings,
Jerry Ann
