Carmen’s Thoughts – New Year

There is a trend of coming up with “New Year’s resolutions”, and normally I think of a few (always lose weight), but this year, I’m doing things a little differently. Rarely do I actually stick to my resolutions, so I decided that if I modify them to be more broad and realistic, I might actually follow through.

Instead of just “losing weight” for the sake of it, I tried to get down to the root of WHY I want to lose weight. Sure, I want to fit into clothes from a few years ago, but now it’s more of a health issue. I’ve been eating (and drinking) way too much, and it shows. Walking upstairs is starting to become a workout when it hasn’t been before. So instead of “lose weight”, “get healthy” is my resolution. That means more clean eating and going out less, walking more, and being more aware of what I’m putting into my body.

The second resolution is also related to being more “green”, which is reduce my carbon footprint. I didn’t realize how much energy and resources I was using until I started paying utilities (ha). I’ve got a lot of handouts and notes from the past semester that I won’t need since I graduated (yay), so I have an incentive to recycle. I’m hand washing my dishes instead of running them all into the dish washer, since it doesn’t take too long.

What are some “resolutions” you’re making for the year? Or some changes for self-improvement?

New Year Plan

For the past two years, I have blogged everyday.  It was a Passion Planner goal, and I was successful at it.  I have gained 241 new followers (began with 7 in January 2017)…thank you.  Crazy for me to think that so many of you actually want to read my crazy writing.

Thank you again!

Most days I love blogging, and coming up with new things to post about.  Most of the time I blog one to two days for the week ahead.  Or I post about things that have been completed or done in the past (like trips or travel).  I am bothered by instant blogging as I don’t think I can do that with my schedule and anxiety.

I am taking a class again this semester towards my AA.  Only one class a semester and if I only do two classes in 2019 I will be okay with that.

What I keep coming back to is that I am enough – right now.  That work, taking classes or stressing over any of those things will not make me a better person.  If I stress over the event itself how does that benefit anyone especially me.

In Oprah’s January 2019 magazine issue, Kacey Musgraves is quoted “Not every pebble is a boulder.  It’s a good reminder, because I can easily sweat the small stuff.”  -as her best piece of advice.

That statement is so true for me.  I sweat the small stuff now, so I don’t need to add any.  But how do I do that?  I have to remind myself daily that I am ENOUGH.  That brings me back to the blog.  I am not sure I will be able to maintain blogging every day.  It is a hope, but not realistic for me.  I will do my best…

I come back to this: MY word for 2019—ENOUGH.  I am enough at work, at school, blogging, as a Mom, friend, wife.  In all things I am enough.

Happy New Year, and many blessings to you and your families.

I have searched the author of the this strip or to give credit for this…

So…Grateful for the opportunities that were bestowed or given to me (us as a family) in 2018.  I am embracing this thought…each day will bring new challenges, and new opportunities…for anything we choose.

I am searching for my heart and mind for choices of opportunities.  What are you looking forward to in 2019?

Blessings.

Resolutions

Resolutions…we all seem to make them, year after year, do we get anywhere?

I don’t.  I always say that “this is the year that I will…” add the following:

weight…this could mean, “I will work out more,” or “I will eat healthier,” or “I need to lose 20 pounds!”

organized…I don’t know anyone who thinks that they are organized in everything that they do…

life…go back to school, start a new adventure, try something new.

All sorts of options out there, and I think I will do the following:

I have lost 20 pounds in 2010, and plan to lose 30 in 2011.  Not a huge goal, but one that is obtainable, and maintainable.  I didn’t make any resolutions last year, and really didn’t begin to lose or think about losing weight until February.  I actually lost 23 pounds, but had gained some back, and then lost it again.  So, to end the year with 20.5 pounds gone was a triumph for me.

I also plan to organize my craft area.  David and I share an office space of 10×10.  He occupies the majority of it, and I keep gaining space.  I have gotten my sewing machine back out, and would like to quilt some towels, and repair some items without having to take it from the closet every time.

I also plan to cook more.  We eat out a lot.  This serves a purpose I know, one of convenience.  Normally, when I get home, I have forgotten to take out the meat portion of the dinner we are to have that evening, and we will end up eating pizza, or oriental.  So, I am going to plan weekly menus, and focus on healthy eating for all of us.

Blessings to you and your families this new year.
